Obama Won't Cede Stage, Releases Minute-Long Ad On Economy

The day after President Bush addressed the nation on the financial markets and John McCain announced he would go back to Congress to work on the bailout, Barack Obama tries to take the leadership mantle from the both of them, releasing a video on his outlook on the economy.

Titled "A Stronger Economy," the spot runs a minute long and features the Senator speaking directly into the camera. It is substantive, laying out several bullet points of Obama's agenda. But it is also cutting in its indictment of the Bush legacy. Instead of prosperity trickling down," he says, "pain has trickled up. We need to change direction. Now."

The campaign says the ad will "air in key targeted states beginning today." So while the two campaigns are not, it seems, going at each other with their normal zeal, Obama is not simply willing to cede to the stage to Congress, Bush, or McCain.
